ANDRÉ GROULT (1884-1967)

Pair of armchairs in mahogany, with a rounded upholstered seating and a sculpted backrest.

Created circa 1915, these mahogany armchairs are distinguished by their rounded upholstered seats and finely sculpted backrests. Each chair bears the artist’s stamp with his signature 'panier fleuri' - floral basket emblem.

This pair of armchairs has a remarkable provenance: from the artist’s personal collection and installed in the dining room of his Rue d’Anjou apartment (circa 1912–1920). The original dining room ensemble consisted of six armchairs and four dining chairs. A watercolor by Groult published in La Renaissance de l’Art Français (May 1918) illustrates part of this dining room. These seats were later preserved in the collection of Princess Lee Radziwill de Bouvier.

Stamped 'ANDRÉ GROULT' and with 'panier fleuri'.
