ÉMILE-JACQUES RUHLMANN (1879 – 1933)

Important ‘Lassalle’ commode in kingwood with bronze hardware. The front is composed of two long drawers framed on each side by two smaller drawers.

Created in the early 1920s, this chest is the most representative and accomplished model of the designer. This prestigious piece of furniture was showcased multiple times by Ruhlmann at major events, such as the Chambre de l’Hôtel du Collectionneur in 1925

and at the traveling exhibition in the United States following the success of the Hôtel du Collectionneur in 1925. This chest has appeared in various interiors and projects, the most notable being the bedroom of Baroness Henri de Rothschild at Château de la

Muette. Our model in kingwood (bois de violette) was part of an order that included the three-sided ‘Psyche’ mirror, coming from a private German collection, purchased in 1954 and remaining in that collection until now.
